Tanjung Priok Terminal Area Gets a Stunning Botanical Makeover

A notorious slum area near the Tanjung Priok Bus Terminal, once crowded with illegal structures, is getting a major 'glow-up.' The site is currently being transformed into a refreshing green space for the community.

The area is now significantly greener, tidier, and more beautiful

Economy and Development Section Head for Tanjung Priok, Nurhayati explained that the 200-square-meter plot was originally a green zone. However, it had been occupied by illegal buildings, creating a blighted environment that often became a hotspot for street crime.

"Before the landscaping began, we made sure to fully clear and sanitize the area," she expressed, Friday (7/31).

She explained that the transformation has been a massive collaborative effort, involving PPSU, Parks and City Forestry Sub-agency, Satpol PP, and various other units since early July.

"The work is now in its final stages, including the addition of vibrant murals to boost the park's aesthetic appeal. The area is now significantly greener, tidier, and more beautiful," she added.

Tanjung Priok Sub-district Parks and City Forest Executing Unit Head, Aditya Febiarizky added that to enhance the park’s beauty, his team is planting a variety of ornamental flora, including Hanjuang Kribo (Curly Cordyline), Patah Tulang (Green Pencil Cactus), Dracaena, and Hanjuang Merah (vibrant Red Cordyline).

"Every day, we deploy seven personnel to manage the landscaping. Hope the locals will work together to protect this space, keeping it clean and lush, and ensuring it is never misused again," he concluded.
